Youth-Led Wildfire Prevention

Youth-Led Wildfire Prevention

Bring young people together to plant trees, care for them through the dry months and share their results online, building greener, more fire-resilient neighbourhoods while growing a new generation of climate leaders.

Wildfires do not start when flames appear. Risk builds up earlier, when forests lose moisture and conditions reach a tipping point. Green Guardians focuses on prevention: keeping land green and moist before fire season, rather than responding once a fire starts.

The idea grew from a pilot in Jeju, where Green Guardians ran school planting campaigns and worked with local farms, publishing photos, tree counts and follow-up care records online.

Behind the project sits serious research. The founder built a machine-learning model that predicts soil moisture and maps wildfire risk, and presented it at the Korea Science & Engineering Fair and the GENIUS Olympiad. She then turned the model into San! Buriya!, a citizen reporting app that uses AI to spot smoke in photos, which she entered into Technovation Girls 2026.

Green Guardians also designs mulmoi: small ponds made from soil and wood that capture rainwater and keep forests damp. This package starts with planting and survival care, and mulmoi will follow later with local authorities and experts.
