Rally your community to clear trash from a local river, protecting drinking water and wildlife while bringing neighbours together for a hands-on environmental action day.
The United States has more than three million miles of rivers and streams, so many communities live within a mile of one — yet millions of tons of rubbish enter these waterways every year, threatening the 60% of the country's drinking water that rivers supply.
River Cleanup is run in partnership with American Rivers' National River Cleanup programme, a long-running conservation initiative that has supported cleanups at more than 1,000 locations. Beyond removing rubbish, a River Cleanup builds relationships between residents, local businesses, and environmental groups, often becoming a starting point for further community-led conservation work. Teams are supported throughout with a five-step guide and dedicated resources, making the idea accessible even for first-time organisers.
