Plan Project Logistics
Organise a core team of parents, teachers, and volunteers to manage different aspects of the project. Create detailed plans covering materials sourcing, tool requirements, volunteer coordination, budget development, and fundraising strategies. Set up your project page on the Playground Ideas platform to access all resources and connect with the global community. Establish realistic timelines and prepare for the dynamic nature of playground construction.
Design Collaborative Space
Transform community consultation insights into a buildable playground design using the 10 principles of playground design and safety guidelines. Access over 150 free designs through the platform, or use the 3D designer to create custom plans. Select appropriate local materials and ensure designs balance safety with healthy risk-taking opportunities. Present designs back to the community for feedback and refinement before finalising construction plans.
Build Together
Execute the construction phase with your volunteer team, maintaining flexibility and problem-solving mindset throughout the process. Follow provided checklists to keep builds on track while adapting to unexpected challenges. Focus on tire-based construction and other locally appropriate materials as guided by the comprehensive building resources. Ensure adequate food, water, and rest for all volunteers during this intensive but rewarding phase
Maintain Long-term
Establish ongoing maintenance systems to ensure playground safety and longevity, treating the space like a garden requiring regular care. Implement maintenance checklists, develop usage rosters to prevent equipment overstress, and create clear playground rules. Provide teachers with playground resources and maintain community engagement to sustain the project's impact over time.
