Apply With Your School's Needs
Submit your application on ChangeX with details about your school — number of students, existing power supply, specific problems such as water scarcity or computer lab failure, and any prior assessments or formal requests on record. Schools with documented needs and community steward groups in place are prioritised. Nirmaan's team reviews your application and confirms eligibility. You'll receive an onboarding call with a Nirmaan field officer who explains the process and agrees a site visit date.
Site Assessment and System Design
A Nirmaan engineer visits your school to assess the rooftop, electrical load, water access points, and structural suitability. They design a system tailored to your school's size — whether that's a 5 kW rooftop for a smaller campus or a 10 kW system for a larger school with a computer lab and PA system. Schools with acute water scarcity receive a solar borewell specification alongside or instead of rooftop electrification. The engineer presents the design to the headmaster and school committee, answers questions, and obtains written approval before any equipment is ordered.
Install Solar and Test Systems
Nirmaan's certified installation team fits panels on the approved rooftop, connects the inverter and wiring to the school's electrical board, and — where specified — drills and commissions a solar borewell. For a 10 kW rooftop, installation takes two to three days. The team runs a full commissioning test, verifying that all circuits are live, appliances powered correctly, and monitoring indicators working. The headmaster receives a handover pack including the warranty certificate, system schematic, maintenance schedule, and emergency contact details for technical faults.
Train Eco-Clubs and Teachers as Stewards
The installation team runs a two-hour training session with the school's eco-club, science teacher, and PTA representative. Training covers weekly panel cleaning, monthly generation log entries, basic fault recognition, and how to raise technical issues with Nirmaan. Where appropriate, energy monitoring is integrated into the science curriculum — students record daily generation data as part of their learning. This builds both stewardship capacity and student engagement with renewable energy, creating a virtuous cycle of care and education that sustains the system for decades.
Share Results and Scale Impact
Submit monthly generation and savings data to Nirmaan and ChangeX using the provided reporting template. Over one year, a 10 kW school system typically saves ₹35,000–40,000 per month in electricity costs and displaces 15–20 tonnes of CO₂. Share these results at parent-teacher meetings, with your ward councillor, and through Nirmaan's broader communications. Schools that demonstrate strong stewardship and impact become reference sites for neighbouring schools — multiplying the effect of one grant into a community-wide shift towards solar education infrastructure.
