What's different when I apply through ChangeX?
ChangeX wants to get more communities up and running with Small Recycling Workspaces in their local contexts. If you're browsing this page and see the 'funding available' icon relevant to your region, you can apply via ChangeX for the necessary funding to set up a Recyling Workspace in your community.
More than that, should you be successful in accessing the funding, we will connect you with Sustainable Design Studio, an expert team, focusing on innovative solutions to plastic recycling. They will guide you through the process, help you source the necessary machinery, train you in the recycling methods, and ensure you're equipped for success.
What does a small-scale recycling workshop look like?
A small-scale recycling workshop is an efficient, compact space designed to enable individuals or small teams to recycle plastic waste into usable products. The setup is affordable, versatile, and easy to operate, making it accessible to community groups, entrepreneurs, and educators.
Example Setup with the Grant Funds for such a workspace would include:
Shredder Mini V2 (Hand Cranked) – €440
A manual shredder that breaks down plastic waste into smaller, manageable pieces for further processing. It’s compact, portable, and perfect for low-energy setups.
Injection Mini Machine – €1570
A user-friendly machine designed to melt shredded plastic and inject it into molds to create new products. Ideal for hobbyists and small-scale manufacturing.
1-2 Premium Moulds – €1000
These durable molds allow users to create specific, high-quality products (e.g., coasters, pens, or small tools). The variety gives flexibility to produce items with practical or commercial value.
Accessories, Tools, and PPE – €500
This budget covers essential tools (e.g., scrapers, pliers), safety equipment (gloves, goggles, masks), and any additional accessories to facilitate smooth and safe operations.
Key Characteristics of the Workspace:
Space Requirements: Can fit into a small room, workshop, or garage (approximately 10-15 square meters) with either a ventilation hatch or a window that opens.
Eco-Friendly Design: All equipment is hand-operated or low-energy, aligning with sustainable practices.
Versatility: Users can experiment with different types of waste plastics and create various products.
Education and Impact: Perfect for hands-on learning, empowering participants to understand and act on recycling principles.
This setup provides all the tools and guidance needed to convert plastic waste into valuable items, fostering creativity, entrepreneurship, and sustainability on a small scale.
