Turn everyday streets and sidewalks into vibrant play spaces that bring communities together, making play accessible for children where they already spend time in their daily routines
KABOOM! launched the Play Everywhere Challenge in 2016, receiving over 1,000 applications from communities across the US. This extensive experience has been compiled into detailed playbooks covering streets & sidewalks, parks & trails, and transit & civic spaces. The initiative uniquely addresses multiple community issues simultaneously: child development, health and wellness, economic development, and social equity.
Research shows that Play Everywhere installations create transformative spaces that attract and retain talent while building vibrant, thriving neighbourhoods. The approach emphasises building on existing community assets rather than starting from scratch, making projects more affordable and sustainable. KABOOM! is a national nonprofit committed to ensuring every child has access to amazing play spaces, with work prioritised around racial equity. Their community-centred approach ensures all playspaces reflect local needs and create lasting positive impact.
