Community Biodigesters: MyGug

Community Biodigesters: MyGug

Transform food waste into clean energy and fertiliser on-site with a compact biodigester, enabling hands-on climate action, education, and circular economy practices in schools, youth groups, and community spaces.

MyGug is an Irish-designed, CE-certified anaerobic digestion system that safely converts cooked and uncooked food waste—including liquids—into biogas and liquid fertiliser.

The system operates using natural bacteria in a controlled, insulated environment, allowing it to function year-round in different climates. It produces measurable outputs, including renewable energy for cooking and nutrient-rich fertiliser for growing food.

In practice, MyGug has been successfully used in schools to power cooking equipment, support gardening projects, and enable student-led sustainability initiatives such as data tracking and food waste collection systems.

The system supports multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action, responsible consumption, and quality education. It also creates opportunities for community collaboration and behaviour change by making waste reduction visible and actionable.
