Co-meta is a community-based training model that strengthens women's economic autonomy by building digital and financial skills to support their entrepreneurial or employment journeys
Co-meta was created by ProSociedad, a Mexican organization dedicated to advancing women’s economic autonomy and addressing poverty and inequality through community-based solutions. The idea emerged from almost two decades of experience working alongside civil society organizations, local governments, and social entrepreneurs who provide essential services for marginalized populations.
Recognizing the limited impact of traditional programs to address the root causes of exclusion, ProSociedad began researching, designing, and implementing transformative learning initiatives with a gender and inclusion lens—initially inspired by UN Women’s Second Chance Education initiative and BRAC's work in Bangladesh - and later strengthened through partnerships with philanthropic and private sector actors such as HP Inc., CEMEX, Intel, Fundación Coppel, and Fundación Monte de Piedad.
Since 2019, Co-meta has reached more than 3,600 women across 24 learning centers in 8 cities in Mexico. The program has been successfully replicated by a network of over 80 accredited trainers in rural, urban, and peri-urban areas, in partnership with grassroots organizations, community centers, and local governments.
Its adaptable methodology enables each partner to respond to their local realities while maintaining a shared commitment to advancing gender equity. Many graduates have gone on to become Co-meta facilitators and mentors themselves—showcasing the model’s deep commitment to leadership, empowerment, and sustainability.
Learning paths for accredited trainers offer 40 hours of training: 1) Foundations of women's economic autonomy; 2) Digital skills (cybersecurity, digital content, social media, digital citizenship); 3) Financial education: financial planning and budgeting, financial services for financial health; 4) Monitoring and evaluation for learning and adaptation.
