English for Communities

English for Communities

Build practical English communication skills that help community members confidently engage with visitors, customers, and partners—unlocking new economic and social opportunities through real-world language training.

English for Communities was developed by Local Alike, a Thailand-based social enterprise that has supported community development and entrepreneurship initiatives across hundreds of communities nationwide.

The training programme focuses on practical communication rather than academic language learning, helping participants use English immediately in real situations such as welcoming visitors, explaining cultural traditions, guiding tours, or responding to customer questions.

The programme typically follows a structured progression:

  • Basic communication: greetings, introductions, and vocabulary building
  • Functional English: explaining activities, locations, and services
  • Situation handling: responding to questions, resolving issues, and closing conversations

Training combines several learning formats to strengthen speaking confidence:

  • Interactive workshops and role-play sessions
  • Guided speaking practice and peer learning
  • Online or hybrid learning environments
  • Short scenario-based exercises that simulate real interactions

Participants often create practical outputs such as short presentations, community scripts, or guided tour explanations that they can immediately use in their daily work.
